Four generations of a Newton Stewart area family went to Arbroath at the weekend to celebrate a FIFTH generation relative’s 103rd birthday.

Ethel Butchart, who has always lived in Arbroath, saw her son Graham Butchart leave the town some 42 years ago with his wife Doris as they moved down to Penninghame.

Graham and Doris had a daughter, Lorraine, who lives with husband Nick Agnew in Newton Stewart. Lorraine and Nick in turn had a daughter, Claire, who is married to James Kirkwood, and they and their children James and Amelia Lily stay in Minnigaff.

So it was a very rare party to mark Ethel’s birthday with five generations of the family present. It also gave Ethel the chance to catch up with her great-great-grandchildren.
