There was success for renowned Machars cattle breeders, A & E Vance, from Bridgehouse Farm, Sorbie, when they won the Champion of Champions overall title at Ayr County Show last Friday.

The top prize came after they scooped the Supreme Championship for Interbreed Cattle with Betty Boop, a 17-month old British Blue Cross.

A delighted Elizabeth Vance said: “We weren’t really expecting her to win the champion of champions, but she was looking well on the day when we pulled her out. It was a thrill to win especially as Ayr Show is my ‘home’ show.

“She is heading for the Beef Expo at Hexham next Thursday then on to the Highland Show next month. We will also be taking her to Stranraer, Wigtown and Dumfries. We hope she will do well but after Ayr there is only one way to go!”

Also at Ayr, the Interbreed Sheep Champion was the Texel Ewe Hogg owned by Allan C Clark, Fineview Farm, Glenluce.
