A MEETING to relaunch Wigtown’s Fair Trade steering group is to be held next week to try and reinvigorate interest in the town’s status as a Fair Trade town.
The steering group is required to oversee fair trade activities in the town, with periodic feedback to the Fair Trade organisation on the town’s behalf to allow it to retain the status.
Now the community council are calling the meeting to gauge interest in the title and are asking anyone with an involvement in previous Fair Trade events, or anyone with a new interest in the project, to turn up and voice their thoughts.
Nick Walker, convenor of the Community Council, said: “The meeting will be on Wednesday 19th September, at Wigtown Primary School, courtesy of head teacher, Mrs Kelly Devine. The school has played a major role in Fair-trade in Wigtown, and will continue to do so. Engaging others who take part in Fair-trade activities and those with an interest in Fair-trade is vital though; hence this meeting, to get things back on a firm footing.” If you’d like to attend, please register your interest beforehand to allow for space by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or by leaving a messange with Gillian at Wigtown Library.
