WELL known Wigtown resident Jim McColm is the only new face elected to Dumfries and Galloway Council to represent the Mid Galloway Ward.

Mr McColm, who stood as an Independent candidate was returned along with Alistair Geddes, SNP and Graham Nicol, Conservative, when the results were announced shortly before 3pm today.

At the first preference stage, the votes were:

Alistair Geddes - 1027

Jim McColm - 993

Graham Nicol - 644

The total number of votes was 3462.

Jim McColm said: There has been an encouraging level of support from the public and it has been an overall positive operation. I have enjoyed being able to speak to people and hear their views on a range of things, as well as visiting parts of the ward I didn’t even know existed, despite having lived here all my life.

It’s too early to say if I would run again in the future.”

In the Wigtown West Ward, the three candidates elected were Grahame Forster, Jim McClung, SNP and Roberta Tuckfield, Conservatives.
