At the annual Schools Competition at Dumfries and Galloway College Douglas Ewart High took runner up spot.

Winners of the trophy this year were Sanquhar Academy, with third place going to Langholm Academy. Kirkcudbright Academy also took part in the event which provides S3 school pupils from across the region with a college taster day of all areas of the curriculum.

As well as a chance to win many prizes, the ultimate aim is for pupils to represent their schools and compete with each other to win the coveted silverware prize of the annual School/College Trophy. In addition, the trophy is for keeps so it remains a permanent souvenir to furnish the school trophy cabinet too.

Each individual event hosted by curriculum staff provided pupils with a brief insight into College life and the various subject areas delivered across the College.

SRUC Barony Campus joined the College activities this year to offer two new exciting events; Animal Care and the Forestry Challenge. Laing O’Rourke sponsored the 2017 Schools Competition.

The competition challenges this year included: Bird Box Challenge, Ceramic Tiles, Classic 20th Century Celebrities, Computer Game Programming, Computing- It’s Good to Network, Construction Challenge, digital Photography and Forestry Challenge.
