A primary school pupil from Galloway has won a competition to design a new Coat of Arms for the Royal Yacht Britannia.

Nine year-old Abby Irvine from Sheuchan Primary School won The Royal Yacht Britannia competition which received over 600 entries from 30 schools throughout Scotland.

Jennifer Campbell from the Royal Yacht Britannia said: “With the help of the Picture Editor of The Scotsman newspaper, and The Royal Yacht Britannia’s very own Naval Architect, Derek Miller, we chose Abby’s Coat of Arms as our winner of the P4-7 category. We loved the bold colours and how her design clearly included her hobbies and interests.”

Abby has won a bumper supply of arts and crafts materials for her class, as well as a Royal Day Out for her and her family on Britannia in July.

Jennifer added: “Myself and my colleague Lynda Dalgleish, Head of Marketing, are looking forward to meeting Abby and her classmates to thank them for entering our competition and present them with the art supplies.”
