Dumfries Show Preview

Dumfries Agricultural Show will be held at The Showfield, Park Farm, New Abbey Road, Dumfries on Saturday, 4th August 2012. As the largest agricultural event in the area the Show provides something of interest for everybody whether they are local or a visitor.

The core of the show is agriculture and this year the entries in the livestock sections are as good as ever. There are 80 dairy cattle, 214 beef cattle, 600 sheep, 111 goats and 535 horses. The judging starts at 9.00am and the Grand Parade of Livestock is at 2.15pm. The cups and trophies will be presented during the Grand Parade by Mrs Shearer, the wife of the Chief Constable.

Prior to the Grand Parade, at 2.00pm Mrs Margaret Kingan will present the Long Service Awards and the J M Rome Award.

Trade stands this year show a great variety from tractors and agricultural implements to cars, from renewable energy to toys and children’s entertainment and everything in between.

The Craft Fayre has 56 stands which provide a wide and varied selection of goods.

The Food Festival has 15 stalls and there will be demonstrations by Douglas Lisi and Tom Kirkpatrick who always give new ideas. This year a Cheese Competition has been introduced. This will be staged in the Food Festival marquee and is the only Cheese Competition in Scotland outwith the Highland Show. Entries have been good for a first year and we look forward to it becoming an established part of the Show in the future

After the success with the cover of the catalogue last year. RHET ran another competition so the winner’s picture is being used for the cover of the catalogue. All the primary schools in Dumfries & Galloway were asked to enter so thank you to RHET for organising it.
