Driver admits offences

A 26-year-old man from Stranraer was fined a total of £1275 and banned from driving for 15 months at Stranraer Sheriff Court this week after he admitted five offences.

David Agnew, 25 School Road, Stranraer, pled guilty to driving on School Road and on the A75 with 42 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, the limit being 35, driving alone when holding a provisional licence, driving without insurance and losing control of his car and hitting a drystone dyke on April 27.

Defending, agent Margot Nichol said Agnew had taken the car after he had been drinking and alcohol was a factor, as was speed. She said the accused was now aware that what he did was “extremely foolish and stupid” and he now realises he could have caused more damage to himself and others.
