Wigtown Community Council were concerned to hear that residents in the area were to lose their direct bus link to Carlisle.
Transport providers Stagecoach announced recently that their X75 direct service from Stranraer to Carlisle would now terminate at Dumfries due to dwindling passenger numbers.
The meeting on Monday night in the County Buildings heard that residents liked using the direct service to Carlisle to catch trains and go shopping.
Passengers from the west wanting to travel on to Carlisle have been advised by the transport company to change at Dumfries onto the Stagecoach 79 service to get to Carlisle, but Mid Galloway Councillor Jim McColm said that bus called into “all the wee villages” en route making the journey much longer. He added that the axing of the link was “similar to the situation with the trains from Stranraer adding that the Dumfries and Galloway transport action group Swestrans were unable to influence Stagecoach’s decision.
Community Council Convenor Nick Walker said they would now write to Stagecoach to express their disappointment at the news that the Carlisle link had gone and that the alternative was inconvenient.
