Disabled parking bays approved

ELECTED members approved the creation of two disabled parking bays in Newton Stewart’s Victoria Street at Wednesday’s council meeting despite strong objections from a local trader.

The parking bays are earmarked for outside the Cinema and Galloway Pet Foods, at 33, 35 and 37 Victoria Street. But a trader in the immediate vicinity had written to DG First to complain that disabled parking at the spot will hamper deliveries to their business as lorries will have to double park on the street causing serious congestion.

The proposed disabled parking bays have already been relocated after the original plan to have them situated outside the RBS building on the other side of Victoria Street raised objections from the police and the chairman of the Dumfries and Galloway Access Panel.
