DISABLED parking bays due for Newton Stewart’s Victoria Street have been delayed since July due to poor weather, a council spokeswoman confirmed this week.
The bays, which had orginally been planned for outside the Royal Bank of Scotland, will now appear outside The Cinema, will be painted on by contractors from outwith the region who have twice been in the town to carry out the work but have been rained off both times.
The spokeswoman said: “The lining operation is weather dependent because it needs a dry road surface. The contractors come from outwith the region so they cannot respond immediately. They are programmed to be back in the area this week, but again the weather may mean they cannot mark the bays out.
“We apologise for the delay and reassure the public that the work has not been forgotten about. We simply have to wait for dry weather to coincide with the availability of the lining contractors.”
