MINNIGAFF farmer David Scott qualified at last week’s Highland Show for the world sheep shearing championships in Masterton, New Zealand in March next year.
This is the third time 33-year-old David, from Drannandow Farm, has qualified to represent Scotland in the championships.
In 2008 he competed in Norway and in 2010 he finshed fourth when the competition was held in Wales.
The qualifier this year was based solely on the Highland Show result and out of 18 blade (hand) shearers David finished second. As only a Welshman beat him, David qualified as the top Scottish shearer.
A blackface sheep farmer, David maintains the old tradition of hand clipping for competitions but has just recently moved onto machines for clipping stock on the farm.
