One of the first tasks undertaken by Morag Campbell, the incoming chief executive of the National Youth Choir of Scotland, will be meeting the parents of members of the Galloway Branch later this month to discuss the future of their choir.
In April the parents were told by letter the Galloway choir was to be merged with the Dumfries branch leading to outrage from all concerned over this bombshell decision, taken without any prior consultation. Parents protested that keeping their children involved in recreational singing would mean a two-to-three hour round trip during the week.
The merger decision was taken by the former chief executive of the choir Joan Gibson. But, Ms Gibson has moved on and the new head of the organisation, based in Glasgow, is coming down to “discuss options” with the families in Penninghame Primary School on June 20 at 7pm - two days after she takes over in the hot seat.
