Concerns have been raised that Galloway’s Dark Sky Park status is being overshadowed by other parks being given similar titles elsewhere in the UK.
Cree Valley Community Council member Richard Kay said on Monday that a programme aired on the BBC highlighting various such parks, but that Galloway didn’t even receive a mention - despite being the first such park in Europe.
He said: “We’re falling behind with it. Maybe we’re not publicising it enough but it would be an awful shame to see it forgotten about.”
The council agreed to invite Keith Muir of the Forestry Commission to their next meeting to discuss ways of maintaining the park’s status.
