D&G Citizens Advice Service to deliver new pensions guidance from April

Dumfries & Galloway Citizens Advice Service (D&G CAS) will have access to trained specialist staff ready to deliver guidance to local people on new pension rules from next month, it has been announced today.

The guidance will be available from all CABs in Scotland, making use of the network of trusted advice CAB centres across the country.

Pension Wise, the UK Government’s free and impartial guidance service, is designed to help people with a Defined Contribution pension make the most of new pensions’ freedoms, and is targeted at those approaching retirement. The CAB service has been working with the government to set up the best possible guidance service for people. Further information is available via the Pension Wise website www.pensionwise.gov.uk

So local people will be able to come to D&G CAS’ four offices in Stranraer, Castle Douglas, Dumfries, Annan, and to find out about the Pension Wise service, and if they are eligible, they can be referred for a face to face appointment. People will also be able to access guidance appointments over the phone, and online.

Sue Irving, Chief Executive of D&G CAS said: “Good guidance is a crucial step towards a financially stable retirement. Here at D&G CAS we have a strong history of helping people across Dumfries and Galloway. We already support people with many of the issues affecting retirement so we’re pleased to be involved in delivering this important service.

“Our guidance specialists are currently undertaking training, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Insurers, so they are ready to start work in April. They will offer impartial information, tailored to the needs of the individual. Also remember that the info is available on the government website www.pensionwise.gov.uk

“The Pension Wise guidance will be a new and additional service for D&G CAS. All of our other advice work will continue as normal. And, as ever, all aspects of our service are completely free, impartial and confidential.”
