Curling bonspiel raises £1200 for Marie Curie

The Stranraer Marie Curie Fund Raising group held an open invitation curling bonspiel at the North West Castle Curling Rink, Stranraer recently raising £1201.33.

What had been planned to be a one off fund raising event has now grown from strength to strength and in its fourth year forms part of the curling calendar with 96 curlers taking part to help raise funds for Marie Curie.

Teams from far afield as Dumfries, Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart and Bucklyvie, Stirlingshire took part this year, including Olympic bronze medal winner Vicki Adams and members of the Stranraer Wheelchair Curling Club.

The winning team were the team from Threave Curling Club, Castle Douglas, comprising of Janett Patterson, Maureen Whitelaw, Wilma McKerlie and Elaine Carmichael

Chair of the Stranraer Marie Curie Fund Raising group Jayn Ammantoola said after the event: “Once again we have had a successful fund raising event and a great days curling. I would like to thank on behalf of Marie Curie all those who have supported us today, the members of the Stranraer Fund raising group who have once again worked tirelessly to both prepare the bonspiel, also the North West Castle Stranraer for providing the facilities, without their help the event would not have taken place.”
