‘Critically ill’ lad airlifted to hospital following crash

A LOCAL 20-year old lad has been taken to hospital with life-threatening inuries following a car crash on the A75 by Castle Kennedy.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the collision, which happened at around 07.10hrs today and involved a silver coloured Vauxhall Astra and a white coloured HGV.

The 20 year old local driver of the Astra has been taken to Glasgow to receive treatment. His condition is currently described as critical. The 43 year old driver of the HGV, who is not local, was not injured in the incident.

The road was closed and diversions have been put in place. The road is not expected to open until at least sometime after 13.00hrs today.

Inspector Neil Hewitson from the Roads Policing Unit said: “Enquiries are still at an early stage however we are keen to speak to anyone who saw either of these two vehicles prior to the collision or indeed has any other knowledge concerning the collision.”
