IN last week’s Galloway Gazette Stranraer and North Rhins Councillor Willie Scobie criticised Dumfries and Galloway Council gritting policy after the bus route to Kirkcolm School was not included in the 2011/12 Winter gritting plan.
Councillor Scobie called this “unreasonable and irresponsible” adding that school children could be put “at risk”.
But this week a council spokesperson said the policy was due to be updated. She said: “The winter gritting plan is more properly referred to as the Winter Service Policy. To update that policy our council carried out a ‘carriageway treatment review’.
“Following the discussions at the Dumfries and Galloway Council meeting last week and the resulting comments and requests by councillors, there will be further consideration of the carriageway treatment review. A report will be brought to the January 2012 meeting of Dumfries and Galloway Council.”
