Dumfries and Galloway Council are to be reimbursed for costs incurred in the clear-up operation following last week’s storms.
Under the Bellwin Scheme, designed to assist with unforeseen emergencies, the authority will receive compensation from the Government.
SNP MSP Dr Aileen McLeod said:“The response over the weekend to the very severe weather will not have been without significant costs. I am very pleased that the Transport Minister, Keith Brown, has advised that there will be full refunding of all eligible costs associated with the council’s emergency response, over and above the funding the council would be expected to apply to the situation.
“I am also encouraged by the speed of the response from the Government. Clearly the council will have bills to pay for all sorts of work, and a prompt assurance that funding support is available will, I am sure, be very useful to the council in managing its finances.”
