Dumfries and Galloway Council is searching for new members for its Children’s Panel.
Across Scotland, 22 Area Support Teams (ASTs) have replaced the 30 Children’s Panel Advisory Committees following the Children’s Hearings (Scotland) Act 2011 being implemented.
The ASTs will carry out functions on behalf of the National Convener of Children’s Hearings in Scotland and be responsible for managing and supporting the national children’s panel in local areas. This will include recruiting, appointing, training, monitoring and supporting panel members. Each AST is made up of volunteers. Clerical support is provided by local authorities.
The AST in Dumfries and Galloway has 19 members supporting 62 children’s panel members. Clerical support is provided by Dumfries and Galloway Council.
David McMillan, Dumfries and Galloway’s Area Convener, said, “Our panel members work in the best interests of children and can make a real positive difference to the lives of vulnerable young people. We’re actively seeking more members for our children’s panel in Dumfries and Galloway.”
