The new year’s day Portpatrick 2014 Looney Dook raised over £2,000 in donations.
One of the main organisers, Iain Ritchie, handed over a cheque for £1000 to Jane Sloan of the Stranraer Committee of Macmillan Cancer Support.
The total donations were split evenly between Macmillan Cancer Support and the PortpatrickParent and Toddler Group for the purchase of toys and treats for the children.
Chairman of the Stranraer Committee of Macmillan Cancer Support, Steve Hardy, said after the presentation: “We are indebted to those hardy souls who took part in the looney dook here in Portpatrick on what was a freezing cold day. We all know someone who is or has been affected by cancer and speaking from experience it is vitally important to have support from the number of charities who specialise in providing that help when you most need it. You can rest assured that this donation will be used by Macmillan Cancer Support for those in need of help within Dumfries and Galloway.”
The next fundraiser will be the Scream it out for Cancer zip wire event at Laggan Outdoor Centre on Saturday 30th August, a joint venture between Gatehouse of Fleet Macmillan Cancer Support Committee and Stranraer committee.
Registration and sponsor forms can soon be down loaded from the website www.screamitoutforcancer.co.uk
