Charges of rape and sexual assault

A Stewartry man has appeared before a sheriff in Dumfries charged with rape and sexual assault.

Robson Pereira, 49, who owns Kirkclaugh Riding Centre near Gatehouse of Fleet, made no plea or declaration on Monday. The case was continued and Brazilian-born Pereira was released on bail with special conditions. The case will be called again soon.

Pereira was once subject 
to investigations by 
immigration officials after outstaying his visa, but was alllowed to remain in the UK following an appeal in late 2010.
