Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce has entered into a formal partnership agreement with Dumfries and Galloway Council.
The move will allow for closer working on a range of initiatives that both the council and the chamber are keen to pursue.
“The chamber is already represented on the council’s Stranraer Regeneration Forum, so a formal working partnership seemed the next logical step in cementing closer working ties,” commented chamber president Peter Jeal.
“While these are challenging times for business, there are some exciting opportunities emerging to transform Stranraer’s waterfront and the economic potential of Wigtownshire as a whole.”
Ewan Green, head of the council’s Economic Development Service, added: “We are committed to working with Wigtownshire Chamber of Commerce and welcome this opportunity.
“Closer ties between the chamber and the council’s economic development service will allow businesses to be more involved in supporting initiatives designed to create a more prosperous future for the area, its businesses and its residents.”
The chamber will lead on the development of an events forum in Stranraer and on the roll-out of a retail initiative in Stranraer later this year.
