NEWTON Stewart Walking Festival has been celebrating its 10th birthday over the past week with hundreds of walkers from around the country gathering in the town to enjoy the varied walking opportunities that Galloway has to offer.
Joan Mitchell, chair of the organising committee said: “The weather has provided some challenging conditions for walkers, not least the high winds up in the hills. However, those who have reached the summits have often been rewarded with some really clear conditions giving spectacular views. ”
“Our tenth anniversary celebrations have gone well and it is very heartening to see so many people return each year to take part in the festival.”
There will be a full report on the 2012 walking festival in next week’s paper.
