Carol singing raises record amount

EVERY year the good folk of the parish join with the Kirkmaiden Church choir in their tour of the area singing Christmas carols in both Drummore and Port Logan.

This year was no exception with a goodly number taking advantage of the fine weather on the Sunday night to sing in both Drummore and Port Logan, and again on Christmas eve, but this time only within the village of Drummore.

All the money raised, which this year was a record amount of £836 is to be donated to the Erskine Hospital, Glasgow that caters for wounded service personnel.

Betty Beck, the Kirkmaiden Choir musical director and organiser of the annual event, paid tribute to the generosity of the community when, after the singing on Christmas Eve said: “This is an annual event that takes place in Kirkmaiden where those who wish can join the choir with their carol singing.

“This year the singers collected a record amount over the two nights, and I would like to thank all those who contributed to the collection for their generosity. As is usual we will be donating the money raised to the Erskine Hospital in Glasgow.”
