Members of Creetown Silver Band are recovering after a busy March which saw them participate in a variety of competitions across Scotland.
The band traveled to the Scottish Brass Band Association areas for the 4th section in Perth on Saturday 8th March. This was the first time the band had competed in the areas for 10 years and came a credible 10th out of 14, just nine points off the winning band. The hard work over the past months certainly paid off.
The band was soon competing at the Galloway Music Festival on Tuesday 11th March in Newton Stewart, winning the North West Castle Trophy when they played the Perth test piece, Three Spanish Impressions by Alan Fernie. Jack Norgate, Kyle Fitsimmons and Hannah Birse - all members of the band - competed as individual soloists, all winning their sections.
The final leg of this competition marathon was on Saturday 22nd March at Alloway. The Creetown Junior Band competed in the SBBA Junior competition ‘Brass at the Bards’. Their performance included a horn solo and duet as well as cornet solos. They won the silver medal against bands almost three times their size.
Support is everything and the juniors were well supported by parents, friends and members of the senior band who were all proud of the hard work, dedication and the fine performance the youngsters gave.
