There are just a few weeks left for Dumfries and Galloway’s greenest businesses to gain national recognition for their work through the government-backed Vision in Business for the Environment of Scotland Awards (VIBES).
Now in its 14th year, VIBES aims to recognise businesses of all sizes and sectors for environmental best practice in their day-to-day activity to cut down on resource use, increase sustainability, improve reputation and benefit the company’s profits.
There will be a total of 10 awards this year, including two new categories: the Hydro Nation Award and the Circular Economy Award.
Businesses in Dumfries and Galloway are urged to apply to the free-to-enter awards before the Friday, July 5, deadline.
Environment and Climate Change Minister Paul Wheelhouse said: “For over a decade, VIBES has produced winners from across Scotland, from a range of sectors including manufacturing, food and drink, transport, energy, finance and leisure. The VIBES Awards acknowledge the significant steps taken by both small and large businesses on behalf of the environment.
“What makes VIBES stand out from the rest is that winners are automatically entered into the prestigious European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE): a huge accolade.”
VIBES is an accredited awards scheme which feeds into the European Business Awards for the Environment (EBAE). By winning a VIBES Award, companies are eligible to enter the EBAEs, which attract entries from the cream of Europe’s most environmentally positive businesses.
Bpi.Recycled Products from Dumfries won the Waste and Resources Award last year.
Jim Montgomery, site director at Bpi.Recycled Products, said: “We were delighted that our work to improve the environment and environmental awareness had been recognised. Large-scale environmental initiatives such as our closed loop recycling scheme are the more obvious face of our green efforts, but the award also acknowledges the many other processes and practices we employ such as our day to day waste and resource management.”
Winners for the 2013 awards will be selected from the following categories:
Management Award: large company category (more than 250 employees)
Management Award: SME (up to 250 employees)
Waste and Resources Award
Environmental and Clean Technology Award
Changing Behaviour Award
Hydro Nation Award
Circular Economy Award
Best Micro Business Award
ScottishPower has returned to sponsor the Environmental and Clean Technology Award this year. In addition, Energy Saving Trust will be sponsoring the VIBES Transport Award and this year’s Waste and Resources Award will be sponsored by Enviroco. The Scottish Government will be sponsoring the Energy Award and the Hydro Nation Award.
