MSP Emma Harper met with members of the Galloway Glens Canoe Trail Steering Group earlier this week to see plans for a new Canoe Trail.

Emma was taken on a whistle-stop tour of the trail by Ed Hex and his colleague Alex Lumsden.

The proposed canoe trail will begin at Dalry and will end at Carlingwark Loch in Castle Douglas with various launching and landing points along the route including the Galloway Activity Centre, the Marina at Crossmichael and Calringwark Loch in Castle Douglas.

The project will support beginners to experts and families of all ages and persons with accessible requirements are also under consideration.

Ms Harper said; “The canoe trail will be a great boost to the local economy, and I look forward to supporting the project as it develops.

“I will contact the Cabinet Secretary for the Rural Economy, Fergus Ewing, regarding Scottish Government support for this project and I look forward to hearing back from him.”
