Sainsburys Newton Stewart have donated £50 to the Machars Churches Basics Food Bank to help with their new lunch time initiative.

The supermarket presented Marlane Cash, organiser of the food bank, with a £50 gift card to spend in store on rolls for their bacon rolls or to go with soup.

The food bank is holding a free drop in lunch every Friday at Penninghame St Johns Church hall.

This new initiative is to ensure that people who are suffering with financial difficulty have a place where they can go on a regular basis to be guaranteed hot food, a listening ear and a food parcel.

Presenting the card was the new store manager Simon Brookes who has taken over the reins in place of Duncan Sellar who was at the store for the last two years.

Simon has joined the Newton Stewart team from Edinburgh, and is looking forward to helping Sainsburys Newton Stewart make an even greater difference in the local community.
