A CREW member from a Kirkcudbright fishing boat is feared drowned after he fell from his vessel in seas off the Welsh coast.
Steven Robertson, 25, from Dalbeattie was crewing the scallop dredger St Avant on Friday morning when he fell from the 54-foot boat.
A large-scale rescue mission was sparked but as yet, no sign of the trawlerman has been found.
The Ballantrae registered vessel reported Steven missing at 2.29am and Holyhead Coastguard coordinated the search, but it was called off on Friday afternoon.
A spokesman at Holyhead said: “We have now alerted vessels in the area to keep a look out for the missing fisherman who was last seen on board the St Avant about 1.2 miles of South Stack.
“One of the boats out today is is the local angling boat ‘Bad Boyz.’ The skipper is a member of the local lifeboat team so he will be keeping an eye open.”
The sea temperature was recorded as eight degrees but Steven was wearing only a T-shirt and jeans and did not have a life-jacket on.
Other vessels in the area joined in the search along with RNLI lifeboats from Holyhead, Porthdinllaen, and Trearddur and a rescue helicopter was also scrambled from RAF Valley.
