Alex Jack (Butchers) Ltd in Stranraer has
picked up four awards thanks to the team’s clever use of haggis and sausages.
The 2014 Scottish Sliced Sausage Plus Evaluation last week handed out the prizes with double success for Alex Jack Ltd in the Year of the Haggis awards that recognised special products that included haggis as an ingredient. The evaluations, organised by Scottish Craft Butchers (SCB), sought products that deviated away from the traditional lorne sausage to make a square sausage with a difference.
In total Scottish butchers submitted 100 sausage entries and 121 haggis products for this evaluation held earlier this month at City of Glasgow College.
Alex Jack Ltd took gold for its pork and haggis burger and gold for its chicken Balmoral; silver for its haggis bridie and silver for its onion sliced sausage.
At the Awards Presentation held in The DoubleTree by Hilton, Dundee last Wednesday night.
SCB President Ian Faulds of Kilmarnock said: “Sliced sausage and haggis are such iconic Scottish products that customers are interested in any new taste associated with them. I’m sure customers in Galloway will enjoy these tasty products.”
