A talented amateur footballer from Stranraer was banned from driving for 15 months and fined £1000 after being found by police sleeping off a drinking session in the back of his crashed car.
Alexander McColm, 28, admitted failing to co-operate with a breath test request at Stranraer police station on October 21.
Procurator-fiscal depute Alison Herald told the court that in the early hours of the morning a witness was woken up by the noise of a bang outside. Near a speed bump, he saw the accused lifting a bumper off the road and into the boot of his car. The resident informed police, who traced the car to Galloway Avenue where it had been abandoned half on, half off the grass verge with McColm asleep on the back seat.
Officers noticed the smell of alcohol when they woke him. Agent Paul Feeney said the accused had been playing football in Glasgow and had been drinking on the bus back after losing the game. He then had the “stupid idea” to drive his car home.
