Galloway and West Dumfries MSP has chosen Wigtownshire’s Anne Barclay to be his ‘Local Hero’ at the opening ceremony of the fourth Session of The Scottish Parliament today (Friday, July 1).
Commenting on his choice, Mr Fergusson said: “As always, selecting a local hero to represent one’s constituency at the opening of Parliament is nigh on impossible, but Anne represents my perfect example of what a local hero should be. Her day job is as Festival Manager for Wigtown Booktown – surely enough to keep most people fully occupied! However, having lost her grandfather and her aunt to cancer, Anne has devoted much of her spare time to raising money for cancer research, most notably through organising the Dumfries and Galloway ‘Relay for Life’ which, rather suitably, takes place the day after the opening of Parliament. Through this, and other means, she has raised countless thousands of pounds for this most deserving of causes. She is an effervescent, cheerful character, whose enthusiasm is infectious and I will feel very humble to be walking alongside her during the Riding on Friday”.
