All set for food and drink fest

The best of local producers will be taking part in the third Lochinch Castle Food and Drink Festival on Sunday, September 2.

The day offers something for everyone with a varied mix of producer stalls, live music, a cookery demonstration, sampling and activities for children, all in the tranquil setting of Lochinch Castle grounds and the Victorian Courtyard.

The festival is part of the Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight and Flavour Fortnight, championing the Dumfries and Galloway food and drink producers of our area. Stalls include home baking, cakes, chocolate, cup cakes, pork and bacon, beef and cheeses, real ales, jams, chutneys, ice-cream, deli produce and fruit and vegetables. Local craft and plant stalls will also be participating.

“We have a full day of activities planned for the whole family including tasty sampling of everything from beef to ice-cream, live music and children’s activities on the castle lawn. We hope we’ve created another exciting celebration of delicious local produce and encourage you to experience and support our local producers at this event,” said Lady Stair.

Life of Reilly will be playing a mix of traditional Irish Folk music in the courtyard during the afternoon. Local chef Douglas Lisi of L’Aperitif will be giving a cookery demonstration in the morning using many of the ingredients available for sale on the day, and Douglas the Magic Clown will keep children entertained, as will the bouncy castle and military inflatable obstacle course.

Entrance is £2 and includes a 50% discount to Castle Kennedy Gardens on the day. Lochinch Castle is situated three miles east of Stranraer on the A75, through the large gates opposite Inch Church (sat nav DG9 8RT). Gates open at 10am and it concludes at 4pm.

Lochinch Castle is situated on the edge of Castle Kennedy Gardens, one of Scotland’s finest, situated in 75 acres of beautiful landscaped terraces and avenues.

The busy programme of events and activities is coming to an end as the gardens close on October 31.
