NEWTON Stewart born RAF man Alan Johnstone will be getting on his bike shortly to raise money for the Help for Heroes charity by cycling from John O’ Groats to Land’s End this summer.

Twenty-six-year old Alan is based at Leuchers where he works as an avionics technician but a week at home saw him hit the roads of Galloway as he started his training. Eight full time staff from the base will undertake the mammoth cycle beginning on July 11.

Alan said: “I was inspired to raise money for Help for Heroes after being involved with the 99 sqaudron and their work with injured soldiers. When the sponsored cycle was suggested I immediately said I was up for it.”
