Two police officers were caught swanning around on Friday after rescuing this lovely creature from the roadside.

Brave constables Lisa Ritchie and Ryan Campbell caught the sawn – a bird known for its aggressive qualities – near Tongland and removed it from the danger of being struck by a vehicle.

The swan was taken to Castle Douglas Police Office and the SSPCA were contacted.

Animal protection officers uplifted the swan and were later able to return it to the water and reunite it with its cygnets.

Plucky Constable Campbell said: “It looks like the swan had flown off from the cygnets to get food and thereafter became disorientated.

“It was a bit daunting to try and capture the swan however it didn’t seem to mind the ride in the police car.”
