Stranraer thrilled to the skirl of the pipes on Saturday with the 3rd Lowland Gathering being held in the town.

Lochryan Pipe Band were the winners of Grade 4 and runners-up in Grade 3 where the winners were Ayr Pipe Band Society.

Campbell Waddell, Drum Major for Kirkcudbright and District Pipe band won the adult drum major competition.

On the event’s Facebook page, the organisers said: “What can I say, a great day today at Lowland Gathering! Thanks are due to so many people who volunteered and helped us with the set up of the field, the First Aid, the litter picking, stewarding the event, Ticket Sales at Gates, stewarding the parade, and of course the take down of the site!

“Amazing how so many people can come together and help to create an event that means so much to the town! Thanks also to the ADG Branch of RSPBA for officiating today, and also to all the Pipe Bands, and Drum Majors who took part. The Trade Stands, Craft Stalls, Food Vans, Kids Entertainment, all contributed to a great day, and thanks are also due to our 1st ever sponsor, Border Motor Group! Thanks to everyone who came to see us today and support us by attending and we hope to see you all next year!”

See this week’s Gazette for more pictures from the event.
