THE 12th sighting of an unidentifiable big black cat in the Galloway region since October was reported last week by two walkers near Dalbeattie.

David Baines from Edinburgh and his partner were wandering through the forest whilst visiting the area when he spotted a big, black animal dart across the track in front of him.
Mr Baines said: "I saw a big pitch black thing run across the track in front of us and vanish into the woods about 200m ahead.
"I just caught a glimpse of it and it quickly vanished. It looked larger than a dog, like an oversized Labrador, which I at first though it was, but its tale was floppier and bushier – more like a cat's really, and it was faster."
David's partner missed the sighting as he had been deep in the flow of a story at the time, but David is convinced that what he saw was not a normal woodland animal.
He continued: "We walked past the point where the creature had gone into the woods, but there was no sign of it.
"By this point, I of course was wondering what it was.
"We were about half a mile at least from the nearest house and the woods were thick. You wouldn't really expect a dog to behave in that way, hanging around dark woods on its own."
When Mr Baines arrived home in Edinburgh, his curiosity got the better of him and he did a spot of digging around on the internet and found reports of the previous sightings in the region since last October.
Sightings were coming in from Whithorn, Kirkcowan, New Galloway, Carlsuith, Corsock and even east of Dumfries.
David said: "My partner thinks it may be a feral cat which has bred with a domestic cat."
However, David isn't as convinced, and wonders if an owner has been playing games with their pet dog.
He finished: "I still like to think it was an oversized golden retriever which had been dyed."
