Kirkcudbright Lifeboat held an open day on Sunday 27th July and despite the weather, many people enjoyed the rescue demonstrations by the crew of the Atlantic 85 “The Sheila Stenhouse”.
Royal Navy Sea King Rescue 177 Helicopter from HMS Gannet went along for its farewell visit to give a demonstration before the service is replaced by a private helicopter service.
Lifeboat supporters offered refreshments and Kirkcudbright Lifeboat Sea Safety Officer Keith Armstrong-Clark brought along a static display of sea safety.
The crew also welcomed Angus Leigh who is five weeks into a sponsored challenge Kayaking from Cardiff to Inverness to raise funds for the RNLI. Anyone interested can follow Angus on Facebook.com/cardiff to inverness.
As many of Kirkcudbright’s RNLI crew are reaching retirement, a younger band are moving in to take up the helm which is welcomed by the local management committee.
