The Stranraer Committee of the Macmillan Cancer Support have over a number of years organized a fund raising abseil at the Mull of Galloway Lighthouse, but last year they decided to change the location to Laggan Outdoor Centre, Gatehouse of Fleet, and with the Gatehouse of Fleet Macmillan Cancer Support Committee a zip wire was organized.

The event raised the sum of £14866.11 to be used for the benefit of those in the area effected by cancer.

It is a sad fact that nearly half of us will be diagnosed with cancer in our lifetime, and for most it will be our toughest fight. Macmillan is dedicated to making sure no one faces cancer alone but they can’t do it without public support.

The zip wire challenge is once again being issued by Macmillan and it will be held once again with the kind permission of the Laggan Outdoor Centre. The event will take place on Saturday 12th September. For further information and to download the registration form go to www.screamitoutforcancer.co.uk which will link you to the laggan outdoor centre web site. All you need to have the ride of a lifetime and raise money for a good cause is to pay a £10 non returnable registration fee and agree to try and raise sponsorship of £100.

For those walkers who like a serious challenge the Mull of Galloway Challenge is again to be held on Saturday 20th June bit this time the route has been reversed with the challenge beginning at the Mull of Galloway and ending in Stranraer

Anyone wishing to take part in this challenge is asked to contact either Edith McDonald on 01776 870622 or Jane Sloan on 01776 870648 who will be able to supply further details and the, all important, sponsorship forms.
