Members of the newly-formed Whithorn and District Community Choir are determined to continue the tradition of music-making in the Machars.
We are told that singing is good for you and, if the first couple of meetings are anything to go by, it is certainly great fun.
The group is ready to have a go at just about anything, from nonsense songs to traditional songs to Cole Porter.
At the moment, while they look for an accompanist and a choir master (or mistress), they are relying on the more experienced singers to get them going but there is a great buzz about the meetings and the enthusiasm is infectious - it is all about singing for pleasure.
The choir, which meets at the Community Centre at 7pm on Tuesday evenings, is open to anyone who would like to sing regardless of age or experience.
If you would like to join, or you think you could help with accompanying or leading the choir, check out our Facebook page or email firstname.lastname@example.org – or just turn up! You’re sure to get a warm welcome.
