Relationships Scotland Dumfries and Galloway have recently been awarded the prestigious LGBT SILVER Charter Mark Award.

A first for a Relationships Scotland Member Service.

Inspired by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the LGBT Charter describes fundamental rights, such as the right to be yourself, the right to privacy, be kept safe from harm and the right to an education. Created by a group of LGBT Young People and wider stakeholders, the LGBT Charter is a positive step towards challenging discrimination while promoting a more inclusive society.

John Dougan, Service Manager for Relationships Scotland Dumfries and Galloway said: “I am delighted and thrilled that we at Relationships Scotland Dumfries and Galloway have received recognition of best practice in a range of areas, including our training delivery, policies which organisation adhere to, service delivery, building links with LGBT partner organisations across Dumfries and Galloway and nationally, using inclusive language across our website and consulting with LGBT people to assess their needs.”

Kerry Riddell, Partnerships Manager South for LGBT Youth Scotland said: “Relationships Scotland Dumfries and Galloway took a proactive and creative approach to their journey towards their Silver LGBT Charter and produced a strong submission. They were particularly commended for their extensive engagement with LGBT organisations, communities and individuals in the region and their work to commemorate a number of events in the LGBT cultural calendar across the year. I’m delighted that they’ve achieved their Silver LGBT Charter Award and look forward to continued work with them in Dumfries and Galloway in the future.”
