Two members of Creetown Silver Band attended the summer course of the National Youth Brass Band Of Scotland.
This comprised a week of rehearsals and other musical activities at the Queen Victoria School in Dunblane under many eminent brass tutors. The week concluded with three excellent concerts in Dunblane cathedral by the children’s band, the reserve band and the senior band.
The two local youngsters, Kyle Fitzsimmons and Rebekah Hughes, at the course for the first time, were partly sponsored by the band. Both had an enjoyable and productive week and returned as better players.
Rebekah who plays solo horn for Creetown was in the reserve band while Kyle, a solo cornet at Creetown was in the senior band, a remarkable achievement for a 15-year old on his first course and from a fourth section band. Both of these talented young musicians will be featured in the band’s next concert which is in The Cinema Newton Stewart on Sunday, August 30, at 3.00pm.
