Stranraer music town still on song

Stranraer Music Town is an idea to promote Stranraer, it’s musical diversity and talent, and to bring together our musical community of all musical genres.

It hopes to encourage the growth, participation and enjoyment of music by giving the community a chance to listen, learn and participate.

It will provide music programmes and events not only to give our musical community the opportunity to perform but also to attract other musicians and visitors to our district thus providing economic benefit and raising the profile of Stranraer.

After several preliminary meetings where information and ideas were shared it has been decided to have an open for all meeting on Tuesday, April 19, upstairs in The Royal Hotel where a committee will be formed. Members of existing musical organisations will be most welcome to attend.

Organiser Nish Walker is hoping for a good turnout and said: “People who want this to happen should turn up at the meeting and sign the music town pledge of support. This will prove we have the mandate to proceed.”

A website is to be set up to advertise all musical events in the Stranraer area, big or small, and provide links to other local music sites.

Stranraer Music Town is on Facebook.
