Newton Stewart charity fundraiser and author Sammi Wood recently travelled to the Alexandra Unit at Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary to present a cheque for £705.10 to the staff there.

Sammi raised the money at a curry and quiz night in the Bruce Hotel earlier this month in memory of Hughie Priestly, commonly known as ‘Mr P’, who passed away in the unit last year, Hughie was a very close friend of Sammi’s and that is why she organised the fundraiser. His daughter, Angela Parker, travelled to Dumfries with Sammi and her mother Linda to present the cheque.

The Alexandra Unit provides specialist palliative care for terminally-ill patients.
