Dumfries and Galloway Council recently planted a replacement tree behind the Old Town Hall in Newton Stewart.

The ‘Fagus sylvatica ‘Purpurea’, better known as a purple beech, replaces the ash tree felled by the local authority during the work to rebuild the riverside wall, damaged during the flooding in December 2015.

Mature beech trees are normally between 25-35 metres high.
