The Order of St John which covers not just Stranraer but the whole of Wigtownshire is an organisation which provides support for those who have been diagnosed with cancer.
This takes several forms but one of those is that of patient transport to appointments and treatment, free of charge. No doubt many will have seen the vehicle in this picture with its Order of St John logo but are unaware of the amount of upkeep it requires because of the considerable number of miles it travels each month. It is amazing that 30,000 miles are covered annually in transporting patients from this remote area of Scotland to the appropriate venue for treatment.
Anyone who has been given an appointment for cancer treatment which involves them having to travel outwith the area should make contact with Willie Waterson on 07702584089.
In addition the Order of St John supports Hospice at Home and the Palliative Unit in Galloway Hospital.
Four good causes in each community have been shortlisted and the Order of St John is one of them. Voting can take place from now until Friday 10th October and it can be done on line, by SMS or Twitter or in local branches of the Bank of Scotland.
