Not even biblically-themed ‘holy’ socks – featuring Noah’s Ark, Daniel in the Lions’ Den and Jonah and the Whale – can tempt the Bishop of Manchester, Rt Rev Dr David Walker to keep his feet warm as winter approaches.

An open-toed, sandal-wearing Franciscan tertiary, Bishop David is presented with a pair of Holy Socks by founder Margaret Wylie from Newton Stewart at the Christian Resources Exhibition in Manchester earlier this month.

“If I wore socks I’d definitely wear holy ones,” said Bishop David, “however, I will pass on a pair as an incoming gift to my new chaplain.”
