Walker passes through region on mammoth stroll

A KEEN walker who has recently completed a 573-mile trek for charity passed through the region last week on an extended tour to take in film locations from The Wicker Man.

John Dodd, 67, from Surbiton, Surrey began the Sir Christopher Lee 90th Birthday Celebration Walk in April and has completed the walk to Oban from his own front door.

Having been told about the Wicker Man filming locations at Burrowhead, John decided to prolong his homecoming to make a detour and visit this sceneic location, amongst others.

John, an avid Santa impersonator, said: “This certainly is Bonnie Scotland. I like to walk and if I can make some money for charity along the way, that’s what I’ll do.

“When I heard about these locations I thought, I have to see them. So if I end up home a few days later than planned, so what?”

John undertakes many walks throughout the year for different charities, this time raising almost £2000 for Diabetes UK, Prostate Cancer England and Scotland, Woking and Sam Beare Hospices, The Lucy Air Ambulance, Highland Hospice and the Blue Cross.

John has been supported by many celebrities in his walks including the cast of Emmerdale. If you’d like to support his walks, make a donation to your chosen charity and mention his name.
