Teacher enjoys the limelight

Scott Fingland on stage

Last Wednesday night, Douglas Ewart High School languages teacher Scott Fingland appeared on the Sky Arts HD programme ‘Nation’s Best Am Dram’.

The series features eight amateur drama groups which will battle it out over the next six weeks against each other to be named the best in Britain.

Scott is a member of the Crossmichael Theatre Group which has big plans to impress the judges and win the chance to perform on a West End stage.

Earlier this week Galloway Gazette junior reporter Stewart Ward asked Mr Fingland what it was like to be on television.

“It was a tremendous experience, and I loved every part of it,” said Scott. “I learned so much, and was fortunate enough to develop my skills with a professional mentor. We went to voice and movement workshops, and even had a fight co-ordinator come to Castle Douglas. It was great to attempt extracts from Shakespeare, Ibsen and Orton - especially for a small club like us. One of the clubs we were up against had over 100 members! I really hope this show will help the profile of drama clubs in rural areas and the Scottish Community Drama Association.

“I do hope people will watch every Wednesday for the next few weeks.”
